Hopi Kachina Doll - The Great Horned Owl Kachina by Raymond Chee - Superlative!

Proudly presented today is this incredible Hopi Kachina doll, depicting Mongwa, the Great Horned Owl Kachina. Famous for his endless battles with the clowns, and their un-Hopi
behavior, he is equally esteemed as a consummate hunter (as shown in this depiction).
Standing 4 and a half inches tall (not counting his feathers), it is carved by the very well-known and highly respected Raymond Chee, a gifted carver who has won many awards throughout the Southwest. This superb example of his work was carved from a single piece of Cottonwood root, and it the first time i have ever seen a figure reaching behind to pull an arrow from his quiver. It gives the figure a fiercely dramatic pose.
